Carpets are an expensive household item and require a lot of care to ensure you get your moneys worth. Good maintenance first begins with good housekeeping. Regular maintenance and cleaning will without doubt greatly increase the life span of a carpet and greatly contribute to protecting its good appearance.
With a regular routine of vacuuming, periodic cleaning and immediate removal of spots and spills, a new wool carpet will last much, much longer and look far better. Your carpet can be kept very clean and tidy looking with a minimal need of equipment. However, it is essential that a good vacuum cleaner is used as well as a small box of supplies. This will need to include carpet shampoo, dry cleaning fluid and clean absorbent cloths or paper tissues to remove spills.
The following steps are three rules to stick to in order to keep your carpet looking its best.
- Vacuum regularly - at least once a week and more often in heavy traffic areas.
- Remove stains and spills immediately.
- Wet clean as required (but generally not more than once every one or two years)
